Winnipeg Weekend

Living only an hour away from the Canadian border makes it easy to escape for a night or a weekend. The Cutlers were in dire need of a change in scenery, so we headed to Winnipeg for a night at the beautiful Fort Garry Hotel.

After a delicious Thai dinner we decided to take advantage of the warm temperatures and walked to The Forks. This area is located next to the river and has sculptures, an outdoor skate park, an indoor market, and soon a museum for human rights.
Esplanade Riel (walking bridge) that crosses the Red River.
View of St. Boniface.
Gandhi was taking a stroll that night and was willing to pose for a picture.
Afterwards, we needed a refreshing beverage. Earls is a restaurant that my friend Alison and I fell in love with in Banff, Alberta. They have a great patio for outdoor entertaining and they make a tasty blackberry mojito.
On Saturday, we woke up bright and early and started the day with some serious shopping at our favorite mall, Polo Park. After picking up some new "back-to-school" digs, we decided to hit up Sushi Train for some.... sushi of course.
Our last stop before returning to the homeland was a drive through Assiniboine Park. This is one of the most beautiful places in all of Manitoba. The English Garden is truly breathtaking and if it were located in Grand Forks, I would visit it every day.
