Anniversary Travels

We made a decision to take a trip each year for our wedding anniversary, and this year was no exception. We would have loved to have hopped on a plane and gone somewhere exotic, but at 20 weeks pregnant we decided it was best to stay closer to home. Instead we headed north to.....you guessed it, Canada.

Our first stop was lunch at a restaurant called Dessert Sinsations. I'm sure you can guess why we thought we should try it out.
The best part of our meal was the lobster poutine we had for an appetizer. The dish consisted of sweet potato fries topped with lobster, cheese and dill hollandaise sauce. Seriously, who comes up with this deliciousness?
Colin's main course was the world's largest egg salad sandwich.
My meal was a grown-up grilled cheese served with apple chutney.
Even if you are absolutely stuffed and think you may explode if you eat another bite, you obviously have to order dessert. Its the name of the restaurant, so its kind of a given. We decided to go for a seasonal item and split the apple brioche. I don't think there was much left when we were done.
After lunch we spent a quiet afternoon at the Winnipeg Art Gallery. We had never been and decided it was high time we check it out.

The last stop of the day was supposed to be watching the Winnipeg Jets hockey team beat the Carolina Hurricanes in their third home game since 1996. Due to some unfortunate circumstances we had a seller back out last minute when ordering tickets online and made the mistake of thinking we may be able to scalp tickets outside the arena. Needless to say, we had to make other plans that night and someone (ahem Mr. Cutler) was not a happy camper. To pour salt in the wound Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez were photographed at the game that night. Talk about missed opportunities.
The next day we awoke to a beautiful morning at the Fort Garry Hotel.

Because we love food so much we just had to share a few photos of their amazing brunch buffet. The pictures of course do not do it justice. This is not Old Country Buffet people; this is a breakfast buffet for the royal family. They have omelet chefs wearing fancy chef hats and there is an entire room dedicated to pastries, desserts and a chocolate fountain. We are talking about four walls lined with sugary goodies like tarts, chocolate truffles, and homemade marshmallows.

These are some happy Cutlers.
